How to Tell an iPhone Clone
Several overseas companies have started cloning the Apple iPhone to make a knockoff brand that looks like the real thing. If you are thinking about purchasing a used or new iPhone from someone other than Apple or an authorized AT&T retailer, you should take extra precautions to ensure you are not getting a fake.
Instructions
1.Look for the "Apple" logo on the back of the phone and when the phone is powered on. The Apple logo is a trademark that can legally be used by Apple only. If you see the Apple logo, it is likely to be the real iPhone. However, because there may be companies that violate this trademark law and attempt to use Apple's logo to deceive consumers, this should not be your sole litmus test for determining the real from the fake.
2.Connect the phone to a computer using the USB cable that comes with the phone. If the phone is a real iPhone, the iTunes software will automatically open on the computer in an attempt to sync the phone with iTunes. If the iTunes software is not on the computer, you will still be automatically prompted to download the software once the phone is connected to the computer.
3.Look at the applications on the phone. The iPhone will have an application for Apple's App Store. Although the clone may have its own generic app store, it will not have Apple's App Store.
4.Check to see whether or not there are navigation buttons on the front of the phone. A real Apple iPhone is touchscreen only and has no navigation buttons.
5.Check the casing of the phone to see if it made of metal or plastic. If the casing is made of plastic, it is not an iPhone. |
